Developing a Predictive Farmers Based Information System for Improved Productivity in Nigeria
Abstract
This study presented how Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing (RS), Global Positioning System (GPS) and mapping was adopted to design a predictive farmers based system that determined variables like distance to market, accredited input’s locations and enhance good agricultural monitoring. Regrettably, few research work have investigated information system based agricultural systems despites its importance to nationhood. A stepwise procedure for the management of land resources for agricultural purposes and the use of ArcGIS Software was adopted. Collateral datasets covering the FADAMA Project Intervention States were collected and analysed to extract the desired information. A conceptual model indicating entity attribute relationship in relation to use of land for agricultural was use especially in the FADAMA III Project in the concern states. The study adds to efforts in technology driven research with great impacts on food security and national agricultural development.
