Using Internet Search Engines for Effective Information Retrieval for Librarians in University Libraries in Nigeria
Abstract
The paper examined the use of Internet search engines for information retrieval; the paper discussed the distinctions between a web browser and search engines and their types; the needs for the users to have knowledge about search strategies and search techniques were also highlighted. Limiting and expanding search results which were considered very important for a successful internet searching were discussed with practical examples. The paper ends with conclusion and two recommendations, the need for the users to know how to limit and expand their searches; the need for the universities in Nigeria to provide internet connections to offices of the academic staff as well as the need for academic and state library boards to spear head the training of their users on best practices for using the internet.
