Popular Participation In Rural Community Development Project: Empirical Evidence From Kwara State, Nigeria

Abstract

The paper examines popular participation in rural community development project in Kwara State, Nigeria. Data for the study was collected from 120 randomly selected respondents from the study area. Data analysis was by frequency, percentage and multiple regression. Findings of the study revealed that respondents were involved in more than one form of participation. Findings also showed that respondents participated in community development projects to develop their community, to obtain benefits expected from project, to meet the pressing needs of the community, and to gain recognition in the community (ego satisfaction). Age, income, level of formal education significantly influenced respondents\' participation in community development projects.
