Abstract

The growth of young common carp (Cyprinus carpio) was analysed in the Deroua fisheries station (Morocco). Total length (TL) growth analysis showed the necessity of an acclimatising time for the young common carp after the introduction in pond to oppose to the environmental factors. The Length-Weight (L-W) relationship demonstrated a b-value of 3.41. According to results on condition factor (CF) of 1.39 ± 0.29, the Deroua ponds are very suitable to common carp rearing. It was found that the following formula: Lt= 3.376.(1-exp(-0.0625.t)) expresses the length growth of common carp in this station. These findings are an attempt to understand the growth performances of this cyprinidae species in semi arid climate and under semi intensive conditions.
