Blood assay of African cat fish Clarias gariepinus (Burchell 1822) exposed to petrol
Abstract
Fingerlings of Clarias gariepinus with mean weight of 4.76 ± O.4g were exposed to acute and sublethal concentrations of water soluble fraction (WSF) of petrol for 96hours and 1 0 weeks respectively. At sublethal concentration of 1 .36, 0.68, 0.34, 0. 1 7 and 0.09g1"1 of WSF of petrol exposed fish showed progressive dose-dependent reduction in erythrocyte count, leucocyte count
and haematocrit value below that of the control group of fish after the exposure period.
