Abstract

This paper tends to bring to limelight the musical activities in Ogun festival among some Fulani in Igboho area of Oyo state. The paper adopts the participant–observation, descriptive, interview methods of research to observe and gather facts about the festival in terms of content and context. The structural analytic method was also used to analyze the songs found during the festival. It was discovered that Goge, Mollo, Gumai, and Joloru which are the traditional musical instruments of these Fulani are used to accompany the music of the festival as against the dundun ensemble used by the Yoruba people. Moreover, the pentatonic and hexatonic scales were found predominant in the songs analyzed. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that proper documentation of African traditional songs should be improved upon by African Music scholars for the preservation of African music culture.
