Effect Of Fertilizer Application On The Oils Of Ginger Rhizome
Abstract
Four cultivars of ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) UG 1, UG 11, Maran and Himashal Pradesh varieties were cultivated and treated with N20P10K10 compound fertilizers at the rate of 150kg/ha, 250kg/ha and 500kg/ha. The physical and chemical properties of oils from these ginger rhizomes were determined. The results showed that the iodine value of the oils decreases with fertilizer treatment. There was increase in the peroxide value of the oils in relation to fertilizer application. The different levels of fertilizer treatment have significant effects on the moisture content of the ginger rhizome. The value of iodine number obtained was very high and varies among the four cultivars with fertilizer treatment.
