Development Of A Small-Scale Water Purification System
Abstract
A simple water purification system for small-scale water treatment has been developed. The unit is made up of boiling, filtration, and collection compartments. Various sizes of activated filters including silica gel, were prepared and used in the packing of the column. The efficiency of the system was tested on treated and untreated water samples which showed significant reduction of physico-chemical and bacteriological parameters. These results indicate that the unit is suitable for the purification of drinking water especially in the rural areas where pipe-borne water may not be readily available.
