Caractérisation de la distribution spatio-temporelle de l’avifaune inféodée à la rivière Banco (Parc National du banco, Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire)

Abstract

Objectifs: Les oiseaux d’eau constituent de bons bio-indicateurs de la qualité des écosystèmes aquatiques. La distribution spatio-temporelle de ceux de la rivière Banco n’a jamais fait l’objet d’étude. Cette distribution a été étudiée de juin 2015 à mai 2017 afin de pallier le déficit d’informations sur ce groupe zoologique et contribuer à une meilleure connaissance de la santé écologique de la rivière Banco soumise à des pressions anthropiques croissantes.

Méthodologie et résultats: La méthode des Indices ponctuels d’Abondance a permis d’inventorier 18 espèces. La carte de Kohonen (self-organizing map, SOM) a été utilisée pour analyser leur distribution spatio-temporelle. Trois groupes, principalement liés à la position spatiale des stations et aux saisons ont été identifiés. Le modèle issu de la SOM est caractérisé par l’abondance des espèces suivant les différents cours (supérieur, moyen et inférieur) de la rivière et les saisons. Une telle distribution des espèces colonisant davantage le cours moyen de la rivière, révèle la présence de 100 % d’espèces dans l’ensemble des stations S5 à S9 et de 17 espèces à la grande saison sèche (GSS) notamment dans les mois de
décembre, janvier, février et mars.

Conclusion et application: Cette étude donne une distribution zonale et saisonnière des oiseaux d’eau de la rivière Banco. La connaissance de cette variation spatio-temporelle est un outil essentiel dans l’élaboration et la mise en oeuvre des politiques de gestion durable pour la protection des oiseaux d’eau de la rivière Banco, de sa qualité et en l’occurrence le Parc National du Banco (PNB) en général.

English Title: Characterization of spatio-temporal distribution of water birds of the Banco River (Banco National Park, Abidjan), Côte d’Ivoire

English Abstract

Objectives: The water birds constitute good biological indicators of the quality of aquatic ecosystems. The spatio-temporal distribution of water birds of the Banco River has never been subject of study. This distribution was studied from June 2015 to May 2017 in order to compensate for the lack of information on  this zoological group and to contribute to a better knowledge of the ecological health of the Banco River subjected to increasing human pressures.

Methodology and Results: The method of Abundance Point Indices used, allowed inventory 18 species. And to analyze the spatio-temporal distribution of those, the Kohonen map (self-organizing map, SOM) was used. Using this map, the samples were classified in three groups, mainly related to the spatial position of the stations and to the seasons. The model resulting from the SOM is characterized by the abundance of the species according to the different courses (superior, middle and inferior) of Banco River and the seasons. Such a distribution of the species more colonizing the middle course of the river reveals the presence of 100% of the species at stations S5 to S9 with and of 17 species at the great dry season (GSS) in particular in January, December, February and March.

Conclusion and application: This study gives a zonal and seasonal distribution of water birds of the Banco River. The knowledge of this spatio-temporal distribution is an essential tool in the development, the implementation of the policies of durable management and protection of the birds of the Banco River, of its quality and in fact the Banco National Park (BNP) in general.
