G Sotis

Abstract

The study emphasizes the important contribution of Lorenzo Franciosini, aTuscan scholar from Siena, to Spanish Language and Literature in the 17thcentury. His translation in the bilingual edition of Grammatica Spagnola e Toscana: Modi di leggere e pronunziare in Castigliano, ed in Toscano ciasceduna lettera dall'a, b, c had a significant cultural impact not only during
his life time, but also after his death, as many editions prove. The work documents the produce available in Inns where the people of all social background would stop along the way: it was the time of the Grand Tour. Thus, it can be seen as a useful handbook for travellers. In this article the culinary aspects and eating models present in the three dialogues at the end
of the book are viewed and analysed within their historical and social frame.
