The photograph collection of the Alan Paton Centre and Struggle Archives: arrangement and access
Abstract
To address the problem of easy access while adhering to archivally correct procedures, the Alan Paton Centre and Struggle Archives has devised a system of arranging and documenting their photograph collection which honours the principle of original order, but also considers the meanings and links between photographs, their links with the manuscript collection and their meanings within the broader context of the Centre's holdings. The photograph collection is documented, described and stored according to a system which not only makes the collection accessible, but also pays attention to the preservation aspect of these items.
