Equilibrium And Growth Morphologies Of Trinickel Boride Ni3b During Slow Cooling
Abstract
The morphology of the trinickel boride Ni3B precipitates during slow cooling in differential thermal analysis (DTA) has been investigated using high resolution electron microscopy (HREM). Due to the large development of the facets of the type {022}, the crystal tends towards an equilibrium morphology whereas the growth morphology is characterized by the development of the {101}, {002} and {020} facets. The excellent correspondence between the {111} planes of Ni and {011} planes of Ni3B allows the periodic change of the Ni/Ni3B interface during slow cooling.
