Challenges and Prospects of Democratization in Nigeria

Abstract

This study examines the challenges and prospects of democratization in Nigeria. The paper identifies the background and overviews of the political history of Nigeria, after much military interventions in Nigerian Politics. Secondary data, was obtained through official documents, books, magazines, and diaries. The study reveals the challenges facing democratization from independence to the present (1960 – 2011). The paper suggests critical and holistic conditions for success of democracy in Nigeria.
