The Current Ichtyofauna of River Otamiri, South Eastern Nigeria
Abstract
This study of fish species in Otamiri River at the Obinze, Mgbirichi, Umuagwo Stretch was done between November and December 2006. The study was carried out at three sites using hooks and lines, gill nets, cast net and traps. A total of 507 fishes made up of 9 species from 8 families were caught. Characidae was the most abundant with 287 fishes, while Hepsetidae was the least with 3 fishes. The result of the study shows a decline in the number of species caught.
