Estimation of the type of adsorption, sorbent saturation capacities and heat of sorption of poultry dropping activated carbon animalis
Abstract
This study involved the estimation of the type of adsorption, sorbentĀ saturation capacities and heat of sorption of poultry dropping activated carbon. The work utilized two recent isotherm models; the Temkin model gave values of B, relating to the heat of sorption (between 355 to 793 KJ/mol). The R-D model provided the mean free energy values as ED = 0.717-2.254 KJ/mol, which were indication of physical adsorption (ED<8 KJ/mol). The Gibbs free energy from kinetics data was estimated to increase with contact time. The theoretical saturated capacity (qD) of the adsorbent
(1.750-2.208 mg/g) was a plus to the use of poultry dropping as biomass for biosorbent production especially when activation involved a longer dwell time.
