An iso-erodent map Imo state of Nigeria
Abstract
Among inputs/resources often needed for erosion risk assessment of a region is the iso-erodent map of the region. This is a map showing areas of equal erosion potentials in the region. As Imo and Abia states of Nigeria lie in a high erosion region of the country, it was decided in this work to produce an iso-erodent map of the area as input towqrds the erosion risk assessment of the area. This was done using the basic form of the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) in conjunction with erosivity and erodibility factor equations previously developed for the area .The map shows soil losses ranging from 113.2 Mg/ha to 233.4 Mg/ha per annum across various locations of the area. The map may be used to classify locations in the region according to their risk to erosion, delineate areas for specific uses, or plan preventive measures against soil erosion.
