Quality evaluation of sachet water sold in port Harcourt, Nigeria

Abstract

Five different brands of sachet water were analyzed for physicochemical and bacteriological quality to determine the portability and quality characteristics of sachet water sold in Port-Harcourt, Nigeria. Unicom UV Spectrophotometer model SP. 8-100 and Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (PU 9100 UNICAN) were used. The results obtained when compared with WHO standards showed that many of the parameters conform to WHO standard while Fe, Zn, Mn, Pb and bacteria (E.coli and coliforms) were found to be above the standards in the samples.
