Perceived Causes and Health Implications of Family Violence in Ogun State, Nigeria
Abstract
The objective of this study was to investigate the perceived causes and health implications of family violence in Ogun State of Nigeria. The sample of the study was made up of 800 married adults conveniently selected from the four geopolitical divisions of Ogun State, (Ijebu, Remo, Egba and Yewa).The respondents are 200 selected from each of the above-mentioned divisions. Information was gleaned by the use of questionnaire. The instrument has a reliability of 62. Four null hypotheses were tested; two were based on the causative variables and the other tw on health implications. The results were analysed using (x-2) chi-square statistical procedure. The result of the study indicated that all the hypotheses were rejected which could be interpreted to mean that large family size, sexual incompatibility were perceived as the causes of family violence in Ogun State, Nigeria. It was therefore recommended that health Education programmes could be further propagated so that married people would be enlightened on the causes and health implications of family violence.
