Influence of teacher-parent communication on pupils’ academic performance in Ilorin East Local Government Area, Kwara State
Abstract
The communication gap between home and school is becoming wider in Nigeria, especially among the working parents’, little or no time is devoted to the schooling of young children by some parents unlike in the past. This however, can be traced to parents search to improve the family economic situation. Now like any other period, bridging the gap between school and home is timely. Hence, this study, investigates the influence of teacher-parent communication on pupils’ academic performance in Ilorin East Local Government Area, Kwara State. A descriptive survey design was adopted for this study. The sample consisted of 17 randomly selected public and private primary schools, out of which 382 parents’ and 382 pupils’ from primary 2 and 3 were randomly selected. Researcher designed questionnaires were used. The reliability of the instruments was established using PPMC. Two research questions were generated and answered. Two null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed among others that teacher-parents communication level is average. It was also discovered that Parent-teacher communication significantly influenced pupils’ academic performance, it was therefore recommended that teacher-parent communication be employed always to improve educational system.
