Anxiety and Adaptive behaviour of fresh students: A case study of Cvenant University Ota, Ogun State

Abstract

The study investigated the relationship between anxiety level and adaptive behaviour of one hundred and fifty randomly selected fresh students of Covenant University. There were a total of seventy-five (75) males with mean age of 17.59 and SD = 1.54 and seventy-five (75) females with mean age of 17.24 and SD = 1.51 that participated in the study. The findings of the study revealed that there was a negative relationship between fresh male student's level of anxiety and their adaptive behaviour, r = -0.44, P<0.05 and fresh female students level of anxiety and their adaptive behaviour, r = -0.52, P<0.05. The study further showed that there is a significant negative relationship between anxiety level and the adaptive behaviour of fresh students, r = -0.24, P<0.05.
The implications of the findings reiterate that the higher the level of anxiety, the lower the adaptive behaviour students exhibit in new environments and situations.
