Beyond Police Barracks: A Research Synthesis of a Counselling Psychologist.

Abstract

This paper encapsulates a synthesis of the research findings of the author on Nigerian police from 1996 to date. The synthesized research works were conducted on an educated sample of police population in Nigeria. Approximately, a two-third of this sample was drawn from the South West, Nigeria. The purpose of the paper is two-fold: to widen the present frontier of knowledge on police science in Nigeria, and to advance some emerging implications with a view to proffering some basic behaviour counseling education (BCE). The paper protocol includes:

- genesis of police
- ideological basis of police organization
- the author's synthesized findings,
- evolving behavioural theory of policing,
- emerging implications, and
- Suggested behavioural counseling education.
