Influence of perceived organizational politics on employees’ career satisfaction among bankers in Lagos Metroplis
Abstract
The main objective was to investigate the extent to which perceived organizational politics influences career satisfaction. A purposive sampling technique was used to select three hundred participants (M=148; F=152) from two private banks in Lagos State, Nigeria. The Career Satisfaction Scale (CSS) and Organizational Politics Scale (OPS) were to collect data from participants. The data were analyzed using Social Sciences Statistical Package (SPSS) version 21. The results showed that perceived organizational politics accounted for 5% variances in participants’ career satisfaction. Single bankers reported a significantly higher career satisfaction compared to their married counterparts. Bankers within the age bracket 21-30years reported a significantly higher career satisfaction compared to other age groups while the junior bankers also reported a significantly higher career satisfaction compared the senior bankers. However, there was no significant difference between male and female bankers in career satisfaction. The implications of these findings emphasize the need for managers/workers to promote merits and minimize organizational politics in the operations within and outside the organization in order to enhance career satisfaction and employee performance.
