Influence of the Dimensions of Corporate Cultural Practices on Development and Performance at the Nigerian Breweries Plc, Lagos, Nigeria
Abstract
Culture is described as a common identity among people based on shared social relationships, beliefs and technology. People are different in not only gender, qualifications or skills but also in their cultural characteristics. Cultural differences in languages, custom, traditions and norms often follow organisational lines and in most cases influence the behaviour and attitudes of employees and their competencies in the work places. Some cultural dimensions and prejudices may act as restrictive elements such that may regress the development and performance of the organisation. In the current context, identifying the influence of the dimensions of the cultural practices on the development and performance of an organisation and devising a method of achieving homogeneity in culture is sine qua non to increasing development and performance. In this study, the authors have critically examined the influence of the dimensions of corporate cultural practices on development and performance at the Nigerian Breweries Plc, Lagos and posit that cultural practices as presently condoned in the organisation have influenced positively homogeneity in attitudes, behaviours and values and to a great extent stimulated productivity, development and performance.
