Utilisation and challenges of ICT facilities for information access and management in Lead City University Library, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria
Abstract
The study focuse d on the utilization and challenges of Information Communication Technologies facilities for information access and management in the Lead City University Library . The descriptive survey was adopted for this study. The target population comprised of 200 students randomly selected across all levels of studies and faculties in the University for four weeks. A structured questionnaire was used as the main instrument for the study data collection. The findings from the study show that the utilization level of LCU library ICT facilities for information access and management was low. Further analysis shows that majority of the students perceptibly prefer to stay outside the library to use the university information technology v ia the V -SAT and Local Area Network to enhance their holistic education for social, economic, cultural development and self -reliance through their wireless personal Laptops than coming into the library to use the provided ICT facilities information for access The majority of the respondents noted that the advent of the Internet ha s negated their need to sit in any library for research or education need. The research finding shows that the use of I.C.T facilities for information access and management in the library would have been of good use if not for the
inhibiting factors listed in the paper . Useful recommendations were given that will eradicate the perennial challenge s militating against the use of ICT facilities for information access and management.
