Factors affecting the adoption of information technologies in academic libraries in Imo State

Abstract

This study was carried out to investigate the factors that affect the adoption of information technologies (IT) in academic libraries in Imo state. Instruments for data collection were questionnaire and personal observation of the four institutions under study . These consist of two University libraries, one College of Education library and one Polytechnic library. The data were analyzed using tables and percentages. The outcomes of the study revealed that inadequate funding, lack of competent staff and inadequate power supply among others were the major constraints to IT adoption in academic li braries in Imo state. In an era of information explosion and incre asing use of digital resources, the paper recommends that adequate funding should be made available to academic libraries in Imo state so that they can provide IT based library resources for optimal library services .
