A Study of Internet Access and Usage among Students in the Faculties of Science, Social and Management Sciences in a State University in Nigeria
Abstract
Internet is a tool for knowledge acquisition, research, information sharing and communication. This paper examined internet access and usage among students in the faculties of Science and Social and Management Science in Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ogun State. Nigeria. A total of 503 respondents were used for the study. Data were collected and analysed using descriptive statistics such as the mean and frequency distribution with percentage. From the findings, the respondents recognised the relevance of internet to their academic work but internet facility abounds more in Cybercafé than on the campus. There was limited internet access on the campus owing to slow server and irregular power. The study recommended upgrade of bandwidth and provision of alternative power supply. For enhanced excellent library service the study suggest university library to seize the opportunity by providing adequate internet services and so be business conscious for this is an avenue of generating income for the library.
