Information Services Provided By Special Collections Units In Federal And State Nigerian University Libraries

Abstract

This study assessed the information services provided in special collections unit in federal and state University libraries in Nigeria. One research question was formulated to guide the study. Descriptive survey design was adopted in carrying out the study. A purposive sampling procedure was used to obtain a sample of 178 librarians and library officers in 12 federal and state university libraries in Nigeria. A questionnaire was used in the collection of data. Mean scores and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions. The results of the analyses, among others, showed that Advisory services, Reprographic services, selective dissemination of information, indexing and abstracting and short loan services are the services provided to enhance the management of special collections while online service was not provided.
