Utilization Of Information And Communication Technology (ICT) For Information Service Delivery In University Libraries In Adamawa State
Abstract
The paper investigates the extent of utilization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for information service delivery in university libraries in Adamawa State. It is a survey research method utilizing questionnaires, interviews and documentary sources to generate data. Data are analysed using Chi-square statistic, frequencies and percentages. Findings reveal that, the levels of utilization of ICT components (computers, internet, e-mails and CD-ROMs) for information service delivery among university libraries in Adamawa State significantly differ; there are differences in the levels of information service delivery in the surveyed libraries; the major ICT training and development programme sponsored by the libraries is induction/orientation. However, frequent power failure and inability to provide alternative power supply are major constraints to effective utilization of the ICT. The paper recommends, among others, provision of solar energy/power, hand wind computers and adequate funding of the libraries.
