Women librarians` work ethical values: An approach for effective information service delivery in libraries in Imo State, Nigeria

Abstract

The article investigated women librarians` work ethical values as an approach for effective information service delivery in libraries in Imo State, Nigeria. Ethical values are characteristic attributes that distinguishes one for effective performance in the work place. Lack of ethical values in the library system or any organization adversely affects effective information service delivery and work flow. Librarians’ ethical values refer to specific characteristics features that either support or undermines ethic related attitude and behaviors which in turns affect their work flow in the library. There are qualities expected of every woman librarian. It is obvious that ethical related working environment of every librarian seems to not only enhance the work output but also the patrons reasoning ability. Survey method was used for the study and structuredquestionnaire was used for data collection. Fifty (50) women librarians (respondents) were used for the sample size out of the population of one hundred and two (102) women librarians drawn from different organizations in Imo state. Data was analyzed using simple percentage and mean statistical method. The findings from the study showed that women librarians work ethical values are very essential for effective work flow and information service delivery in libraries. The study recommended that that every women librarian should imbibe good ethical values in their respective work places to ensure effective work flow and adequate information service delivery in libraries.
