Information retrieval tool and utilization of library resources in Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed Library, Federal University Wukari, Taraba State Nigeria

Abstract

This study is on information retrieval and utilization of library resources in academic libraries. The study has 6 objectives and 6 research questions upon which 4 hypotheses were formulated and tested using chi square statistical analysis at 0.05 alpha level. The study made use of questionnaires and the population of the study was 42 staff of Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed Library consisting of 19 professional staff and 23 para professional staff. A census population sampling technique was adopted by the researchers. The findings of the study revealed that the information retrieval tools influenced information retrieval and facilitated the utilization of library resources. It was therefore, recommended by the researchers that there should be organized training of the staff in the libraries on the use of information retrieval tools, so as to efficiently assist students in accessing and retrieving information for research.
