Impact of accreditation exercise on library resources for quality education in colleges of education, a study of Alvan Ikoku College of Education Owerri
Abstract
The study investigated the impact of accreditation exercise on library resources for quality education in colleges of education, using Alvan Ikoku college of Education Owerri for the study. The researchers formulated three purposes of the study which harmonied with the research questions. The study employed descriptive survey research design and gathered data with the use of structured questionnaire. The population of the study comprises sixty (60) library staff from the college under study. The data collected was analyzed using tables, frequency and mean percentages based on (four)4 linkert scale. The findings of the study revealed that during accreditation exercise, information resources (books, e-books, and electronic devices), are adequately provided. The finding also showed that infrastructural resources like reading chairs, tables/carrels, shelves, lightening, good ventilation are adequately provided, even the library building were given first lift. In the area of human resources, it was revealed that more staff is recruited during accreditation exercise and in the placement of these resources; quality education is assured in the college. As a result of these findings, the researchers recommended that the provision of these resources should be a continuous exercise in other to have them always available in the library for quality education to be maintained and not only during accreditation exercise.
