Undergraduate students' attitude and acculturation towards the use of e-learning tools at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria
Abstract
E-learning is the acquisition of knowledge and skill using electronic technologies such as computer and internet-based courseware, local and wide area networks. In spite of constant distribution of android tablets and the e-library with e-learning tools made available, students find it difficult to acculturate this tool for learning rather they use it to chat and watch films. This study examined the available e-learning tools for use in university of Ilorin; (ii) undergraduate students’ attitude towards the utilization of e-learning tools; (iii) investigated undergraduate students’ acculturation toward the utilization of e-learning tools; (iv) ascertained if acculturation influence the attitude of undergraduate students towards the utilization of e-learning tools; (v) examined gender influence on undergraduate students’ acculturation towards the utilization of e-learning tools and (vi) examined gender influence on undergraduate students’ attitude towards the utilization of e-learning tools. Descriptive research design of the survey type was employed for the study. A structured questionnaire was the instrument used to draw inferences on the general response of the 361 respondents that were involved in the study. Six research questions were stated and answered using Frequency count; percentages, Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while the three hypotheses in the study were tested using paired sample t-test. The findings of this study established that e-learning tools are available for undergraduate students’ use in University of Ilorin; undergraduate students had positive attitude towards the use of e-learning tools 3.23< 2.5; undergraduate students were acculturated with the use of E-learning tools. There was significant difference between undergraduate students’ acculturation and attitude towards the use of e-learning tools t (360) = 4.82, p =0.02. The study concluded that, E-learning tools are available for undergraduate students’ use in University of Ilorin. Based on the findings it was recommended among others that the university should procure more adequate e-learning tools to enhance undergraduate’ students acculturation.
