Impact of ICT skills on the use of electronic resources by undergraduate students in Nigerian University Libraries
Abstract
The study examined impact of ICT skills on the use of electronic resources by undergraduate students in Nigerian University Libraries. The study covered 217 undergraduates‟ library users selected through purposive sampling technique. Three (3) Nigerian University Libraries with functional e-library were identified and used for the study. Information was obtained from respondents with the use of structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics such as percentage and frequency counts. The findings of the research showed that electronic resources were available in the three (3) Nigerian University Libraries and the extents of usage by the undergraduate students were equally very high. It was also revealed that the respondents have high level of ICT skills that enable them effectively used the electronic resources. Findings revealed that delay in downloading files, poor network and difficulty of accessing some websites were the major challenges encountered by respondents on use of e-resources. The study recommends the provision of sufficient fund by government to equip libraries with modern technological equipment. There should be training and retraining for undergraduates by library management to enhance ICT skills.
