On-line curriculum education for teaching and learning process: opportunities and challenges: a case study of electronic learning (E-learning)
Abstract
The fast growth and rise in number of tertiary institutions in Nigeria has been unpleasantly turning away large numbers of qualified applicants due to lack of facilities. To solve some of these problems, the use of ICT through E-Learning have major role to play. This research work discusses and elaborates the importance of E-Learning in the tertiary educational of Nigeria as well as the different issues concerned curriculum educational technology of an E-Learning System. It further comparing student performance measures and assessments of learning experience from both online and traditional system of learning, the findings provides evidence that student performance as measured by grade is independent of the mode of instruction. The study also shows how ICT through E-Learning has helped or can help people access tertiary education by not necessarily being on the campus of the respective tertiary institutions. E-learning can be seen as a solution to the various factors that affect access to tertiary education such as lack of facilities to meet increasing educational demand due to population growth. The researchers recommend that every tertiary institution in Nigeria should make E-learning part of its structure, so as to facilitate and speed up the development of education and the country as a whole. It is anticipated that the findings of this study will give curriculum developers new insights into emerging issues on performance and influence the Ministry of Education on policy formulation on E-Learning system.
