Exploring best cataloguing rules in the 21st century: Changes from AACR2 to RDA
Abstract
In this digital era, the need to embrace change is inevitable. The authors described fundamental changes that were necessary to move cataloguing practice to the next level. Some of these changes include but not limited to: cataloguing working tools, changes in information resources, vocabulary, main entry points and changes in bibliographic description of library resources among others. The paper concludes by calling on Librarians as well as Information practitioners alike to see the need to re- evaluate the library catalogue and the dangers of continuing to delay the changes which will not conform to best practices around the world and will equally lead to inconsistency and lack of uniformity.
