An assessment of the collection development and acquisition processes in Kenneth Dike library, University of Ibadan, Nigeria
Abstract
This study is an assessment of the collection development and acquisition processes in Kenneth Dike Library, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. The records are critically examined. Data on books purchased and donated from 2006 t o 2013 was obtained from the acquisition records and accession registers in Kenneth Dike Library (KDL). The study identifi ed subvention from the Federal Government, Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), donations and Special Interventions from individuals, Corporate and Multinational Organizations and Foundations as major sources of fund of KDL. It showed that from 2006 – 2013, a total of 30, 976 books were purchased by KDL ; the highest volume of books was purchased in 2011 which decreased rapidly by 78.3 per cent in 2013. The study further revealed that from 2006 to 2013, 13, 717 volumes of books were donated ; with the highest of 5, 620 books donated in 2006, while 2013 had the lowest of 248 b ooks implying 95.6 percent decrease. The study recommended increased funding to enable the Collection Development Librarian and the Acquisition Librarian acquire relevant and current library resources for KDL users.
