Morality, Ideology and the Disbursement of Foreign Aid

Abolade Adeniji

Abstract

Especially since the end of the Second World War in 1945, the issue of the disbursement of foreign aid has become a major ingredient of the relationship between the rich nations of the North and the poor countries of the South. This paper has examined the position of various scholars and various schools of thought on the issue and concludes that the rich countries of the world must be willing to share with the poor nations their wealth, not just because religion prescribes it, but because it is the right thing to do. The paper also exhorts poor nations to internalize the attributes of self-reliance.
