Religious Engagements in Tertiary Institutions. A Study of Christian Fellowship International, University of Port Harcourt Chapter, Nigeria

Abstract

There is an overwhelming concern of the academic community in tertiary institutions in Nigeria on the effects of students’ engagement in religious activities on their academic performance and wellbeing. The study considers scholarly views on the impacts of religious activities on the school lives of the students. It further explores the correlation between students’ involvement in religious activities on campuses and their academic performance and wellbeing, using the Christian Fellowship International, University of Port Harcourt as a case study. Using a historical approach, the study reveals that most of the activities of these fellowships are geared towards improving the academic well-being, performance of students and leadership positions equip students for higher responsibilities when they graduate. The study recommends that authorities of higher institutions of learning should not only recognize campus fellowships, but they should enable environments for them.
