Estimate Of Positive Ground Lightning Flashes In Ibadan, Nigeria

Abstract

Positive ground lightning flashes have been monitored for a period of one year in Ibadan, Nigeria. The instrument used was lightning flash counter designed to isolate only positive lightning discharges at average radiation field change of 5.0 v/m and peak frequency response of 17.0kHz with 3dB attenuation and effective range of 60km. A total of 444 flashes were obtained with most of the flashes occurring at night times. The active flash days were 32 and the most active flash month was October.
