The Nexus Between Paulo Freire\'s Philosophy Of The Oppressed And Social Work Practice: A Philosophical Exploration

Abstract

Paulo Freire's revolutionary approach to the emancipation of his people from exploitation and dehumanization has been misconstrued to be at variance with the altruistic philosophy inherent in social work practice. This paper debunks this misconception and accentuates from a philosophical stand point the intricate synchronization between Paulo Freire's pedagogy of the oppressed and social work practice. The principles which underlie social work practice are highlighted and harmonized with the thrust of Paulo Freire's pedagogy of the oppressed.
