Moderating Role of Academic Self-Efficacy on School Achievement and Cheating among Senior Secondary School Students

Abstract

The study investigated the Moderating Role of Academic Self-Efficacy on School Achievement and Cheating among Senior Secondary School Students in Niger State, Nigeria. Three research question and three hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. Mean and standard deviation and T-test were used to answer of the research question and the null hypotheses. A total of 100 Senior Secondary Class one and two (SS I&II) Students were drawn from Ten public secondary schools in the Area. An instrument tagged Cheating Achievement Self-Efficacy Questionnaire (CASEQ) was developed revalidated and used for the study. The results show that cheating is more likely among achieving students with low-level of Academic self- efficacy. Base on the findings of the study, recommendations among which include, parent must be sensitized not to encourage their wards to cheat in an examination, and posters showing names of blacklisted teachers, students and schools should be displayed on walls at the school dormitories for sightening this will help to reduce cheating syndrome among the populace were made.
