Abstract

Although there are various ways to secure a country's strategic assets, the most common and effective is to physically secure the assets by building fence or wall around the perimeter of the asset, or by posting guards. Another way is to keep the asset sec ret by not disclosing the location of the asset, or by encrypting information about the asset thus protecting it from all forms of cyberattacks. This paper seeks to explore ways best possible to secure a countries  critical infrastructure and assets for economic development and make recommendations on the best strategies to achieve the best level of security because in essence there cannot be perfect security. The methodology used in this research is the Systematic review using the Portal of the North West University library for information scooping with some preprocessing done on the initial output. This paper identified eleven ( critical infrastructures peculiar to all countries and discusses how they can be protected from attack or sabotage. These assets are found in all countries worldwide and hence are target by enemies. The paper recommends education of the people as a basic weapon in safeguarding infrastructures as well as physical locks and barriers, using drones, CCTV cameras and above all, cybers ecurity awareness and security based software acquisition and in house development.
