Effect of Family Planning on the Mental Well-being of Tiv Couples in the Second Stage of Family Cycles in Benue State: Counselling Implications

Abstract

This study examined the effect of family planning on mental well-being of Tiv couples in the second stage of family cycle in Benue State. Three null  hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. A survey design was adopted. The sample consisted of Tiv couples who have been  married for two years and above. A self developed instrument tagged Family Planning and Couples Well-being questionnaire (FPCWBQ) was standardized  by the researchers and experts and used for data collection. The data collected was analyzed using chi-square statistics. Results indicated  that family planning had significant effect in improving the economic well- being of Tiv couples, preserving the women’s health and enabling couples  advance professionally. Based on the findings the researchers recommended the establishment of family planning units in every hamlet to meet the  demand of the teeming populates.
