Abstract

The institution of marriage is as old as mankind and it has evolved with time. In most African societies (South Africa included), marriage continues to be seen as the important component of society and social relations. Falling in love, getting married, having children and starting a family is aspirations many young women from various cultures around the world share. However, with modernization and other developments that have rocked the world, young people now view marriage in different lenses as the old society used to. The current study, therefore, investigates the perceptions of young women on marriage, using Mafukani village as a case study. The main purpose of the study is to understand the various views of young women on the institution of marriage. Methodologically, this study will follow qualitative methods of data collection and analysis.
