Assessing predisposing factors to sexual harrasment among female students in selected Nigerian universities

Abstract

The extent of sexual harassment in tertiary institutions is alarming and poses a major problem to the actualization of the goal of education. Hence this study assessed the predisposing factors to sexual harassment among female undergraduate students in selected Nigerian Universities. The design for this study was a descriptive survey; a stratified simple random sampling technique was used to select sample size of 500 students. Three (3) null hypothesis were formulated and tested, the result of the first hypothesis revealed that there is a significant influence (X²_7.814^-cal= 123.240, P=0.001) of gender based role on sexual harassment among undergraduate students. It is recommended that there is need for sexual harassment prohibition law in schools and a need for social workers in the student affairs division, so as to provide services ranging from sensitization, advocacy to other form of intervention services to students.
