Reviewing factors which predispose learners to indulge in sexual activities against the risk of pregnancy and sexual diseases: implications for social work intervention

Abstract

The main aim of this paper is to provide a review of factors which predispose learners to indulge in sexual activities. The findings revealed that learners indulge in unprotected sex at an early age and it puts them at risk of falling pregnant and contracting sexual diseases. The findings further established that the involvement of sugar daddies or blessers with teenage girls have appeared to be the most common factor in placing learners and young females in general–at risk of being sexually active at an early age, and the outcomes include pregnancy and sexual disease. According to the results, poverty also contributes to the increasing occurrence of teenage pregnancies .As a professional person, the social worker is knowledgeable in addressing the root causes that put learners at risk of pregnancy and sexual diseases. Therefore, the social work interventions are highlighted in this paper. Lastly, the paper concludes with recommendations.
