Manuscripts should be typed in 1.5 spacing (including notes, references and quoted matter), and should be arranged to conform with the system for parenthetical documentation set out in the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers (eighth edition). Contributors are urged to familiarize themselves with the conventions of this style, and to note that the Editor reserves the right to return any manuscript accepted for publication to its author for re-formatting. Notes are gathered at the end of the body of the text, and should be confined to (a) content notes offering the reader comment, explanation, or information that the text cannot accommodate; and (b) bibliographic notes containing either several sources or evaluative comment on sources.

References in the text are indicated by the surname(s) of the author(s) and page number(s) in parentheses, e.g. (Ndebele 191). If reference is made to more than one work by the same author, the work's title, or a shortened version, is included after the author's name, e.g. (Coetzee, "Farm Novel" 17).

Submissions are reviewed anonymously by members of English in Africa’s Editorial Board and other prominent scholars.

Please submit manuscripts electronically (in Word format) via e-mail to: sophy.kohler@gmail.com or englishinafrica@ru.ac.za.

Contributors affiliated to South African academic institutions are advised that a publication fee will be levied against the DHET subsidy that their article attracts. This fee is R150 per page.
