Abstract

La conquête coloniale de Bouaké est intervenue en 1898. La construction du poste militaire témoigne du début de la naissance de la ville. Le colon, libéra certains esclaves et créa un quartier pour ceux-ci. D’autres quartiers furent créés par des communautés allogènes et des villages se rattachèrent à la ville naissante. Erigée en commune avec pour maire, Djibo Sounkalo¹, la ville se développe grâce son extension. Comment expliquer le processus de création des quartiers de la ville de Bouaké de 1898 à 1980 ? La réponse à cette préoccupation scientifique a suscité le recours aux sources d’archives, imprimées, numériques, aux publications scientifiques et aux travaux de l’ORSTOM². Pour illustrer notre étude, une carte a été conçue et des photographies ont été utilisées. Des témoignages auprès des personnes ressources de la ville ont été collectés. Ce qui nous a permis d’aboutir à des résultats suivants. La ville de Bouaké a pris son envol après la construction du poste militaire. Son extension a occasionné l’annexion des villages. L’implantation des infrastructures économiques et sociales a favorisé la création d’autres quartiers.

The colonial conquest of Bouaké took place in 1898. The construction of the military post bears witness to the birth of the town. The colonist freed some slaves and created a neighbourhood for them. Other districts were created by non-native communities and villages were attached to the nascent town. Established as a commune with Djibo Sounkalo as mayor, the town grew as it expanded. How can we explain the process of creating districts in the town of Bouaké from 1898 to 1980? To answer this scientific question, we turned to archival, printed and digital sources, scientific publications and the work of ORSTOM. To illustrate our study, a map was designed and photographs were used. Testimonies were collected from the town's resource people. This enabled us to arrive at the following results. The town of Bouaké took off after the construction of the military post. Its expansion led to the annexation of villages. The establishment of economic and social infrastructures led to the creation of other neighbourhoods.
