O P Oyakhilome

Abstract

Residency training involves a number of examinations. The preparation for which
poses challenges of such magnitude that can manifest in conflict of interest as a result of distortion of reality. In addition to training and research, residency training institutions offer clinical services and patient care is therefore of utmost importance. A healthy balance needs to be struck between performing indicated clinical tasks, actual studying and thesis writing. Potential areas of conflict include heavy workload, irregular sleep hours, lack of reliable functional utilities and the cash and carry nature of services. A flexible work plan and acceptable alternatives where plausible contribute to coping with these conflicts.
