Abstract

Congenital skeletal deformities can be caused by foetal genetic anomalies or maternal exposures during pregnancy. Rhizomelia, the shortening of proximal bones of the limbs, is one of the documented skeletal disorders that can be caused by any of the two factors. This condition is a rare occurrence in our setting, and we present this case to review current knowledge and to draw parallels with other case reports from around the world. By presenting the case, we hope to encourage more reporting of other such cases to improve our understanding of the condition leading to better patient outcomes.
